Songs and playlists

There are thousands of songs a DJ could choose to play at any given event but the final choice will be dependent on the crowd attending that event. For example: with the best will in the world …if the crowd is not into 2008 RnB then there is no point playing it! This will only antagonise them further. You are paying for the expertise and professionalism of the DJ so let him use his experience to control the night …after all you wouldn’t go out for a meal and tell the chef how to cook the food would you?

We want you to have lots of involvement in choosing the music, but you need to trust your DJ to interpret your ideas and create the right mood in your event’s dynamic environment. Remember we are here to create an atmosphere that reflects your personalities. We won’t just go off and do our own thing. We will craft the playlist to get the best possible results for you and your guests.

If you have any specific songs that are particularly special to you or your family and friends then the DJ will make sure that they are played, but it is more beneficial to allow the DJ to “fit” these songs into the night to unsure continuity. Time after time at MT Entertainments we have seen the dance floor empty because a client has insisted their particular song be played immediately! The DJ will know if the song will work or not so use his judgement after all that’s what you are paying for!

With the greatest deal of respect, think about how expert you are in your 9 to 5 job and apply this to DJ entertaining the crowd, he would very much appreciate requests but let him filter these requests to either allocate a slot (what time is best to play the song) or discard the song because it will either clear the dance floor or is not appropriate for the occasion. An example of a discarded song might be a football song when it is obvious there are rival fans in the audience or a song with explicit lyrics.

Taking a mixed audience the DJ will assess the guests and match the music accordingly. Younger audiences (18ths and 21sts) will have their music aimed toward them with chart hits from the past 36 months pre-buffet followed after the buffet with the more “cheesier” type of songs. This works because the older element of the audience wants to chat and “catch up” with relatives pre-buffet but are prepared to dance after this has been achieved with the younger one’s now wanting to sing and dance to more classic tunes (70’s, 80’s and 90’s). It’s a tried and trusted formula!

Attached is a brief list of the songs you might expect to hear on a mixed non theme night, this is by no means a concise list but gives an example of the type of music that works week in week out.
